Hackathon

Welcome innovators and problem solvers!
In the 2024 USITCC Hackathon competition, teams will be presented with a business case with several options for enhancing the business through solutions you design! Working in teams of up to four (either all from the same school OR mix and match from different schools during the hackathon kickoff mixer), each team will provide deliverables throughout the 36 hours of the competitions at each project checkpoint.
Teams will be evaluated on:
- Feasibility
- Innovation
- Functionality
- User Experience
- Documentation
- Presentation
There will be a dedicated Hackathon Incubator, where teams can work together (or you can work on your own). At the Allocated check in times staff will be available to help evaluate your milestones.
Team Composition
Teams may be made up of 4 people, all from one university/college or a mix.
Schedule
- 6:00 PM Thursday: Hackathon Kickoff Mixer
- Deliverable: Team formation (Names, Universities, project team)
- 10:00 PM Thursday: Assess the market and possible solutions
- Deliverable: Description/Overview of your project
- 8:00 AM Friday: Prototype
- Deliverable: Wireframe / mocked up screenshots / data flow diagrams / etc.
- 4:00 PM Friday: Provide a minimal viable product (MVP)
- Deliverable: Basic working functionality / Proof of concept
- 9:00 PM Friday: Provide a prototype solution
- Deliverable: Your “Almost done” project
- 9:00 AM Saturday: Finalist Presentations
- Deliverable: 10 minute presentation / product demo
Feedback will be provided within one hour of each deliverable.
Skills and Resources
Skills you might look for on your team:
- Market Analysis
- Creating data flow / design
- Application Development
- Infrastructure (i.e., hosting on AWS, Azure, DigitalOcean, etc..)
- Presentation
You may use any languages, databases, hosting platforms, etc. The use of AI, external APIs, etc. is allowed and encouraged.
Protocol
Teams will be formed during the kickoff meeting. As each specified checkpoint teams will be provided feedback by our panel of judges. Depending on the progress of each team, decisions will be made as to whether each team should continue to progress through the competition.
